ABB Russia goes for IBM SAP system hosting

Power, instrumentation and systems giant ABB has signed a three-year contract with IBM for hosting services on its SAP system in Russia.

“ABB’s business today calls for 24/7 support: by outsourcing our SAP infrastructure and maintenance to a IBM, we will increase the availability and reliability of the system, while also reducing costs compared to in-house support,” says ABB CIO Vladimir Shevchenko. “In addition, our in-house IT experts will now be available to focus on other areas that require a more profound understanding of the company’s business,” he adds. As part of the hosting agreement, IBM will provide hardware and software to keep ABB’s SAP system up and running, while also designing and deploying the SAP system landscape and helping to ensure day-to-day system operation and back-up. The solution will be based on high-performance IBM System x servers and IBM System Storage DS4700 and TS3200 tape library.
