Doors open on logistics deal for TDG

Supply chain cost savings and operational improvements have led door and window manufacturer Premdor UK to extend its contract with TDG for distribution of products throughout the UK.

The two-year deal is an extension of an existing arrangement which sees TDG moving two million doors a year for Premdor, part of the Masonite group. Full loads leave the Barnsley manufacturing site nightly and are taken by road to TDG depots at Mossend, Swindon and Thurrock for cross docking. These are then delivered direct to construction sites, builders' merchants or end users. By integrating this transport into the wider TDG network, TDG has been able to use back haul opportunities to save fuel miles, reduce empty running and improve operational efficiency. It consistently achieves 99% on-time, in-full deliveries to site. Paul Conway, Premdor's UK and East European logistics manager, says: "TDG has implemented some very successful cost-down projects and our transport efficiencies have significantly improved. However, what we've been most impressed about is TDG's exceptional levels of service." Logistics group Norbert Dentressangle is in the process of purchasing TDG: the £196m deal was announced late last year but is awaiting sign off by competition authorities.
