EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, has appointed Claire Jakobsson as its head of climate, energy and environment policy. She will take over from Gareth Stace who has become director of UK Steel.

Jakobsson will lead a team of three policy experts and will be responsible for advancing the interests of manufacturing in the environment and sustainability space. She will also be key in shaping EEF’s stance and support for manufacturers on issues such as the business energy efficiency taxation review, the energy intensive compensation package and the reform of the EU emissions trading scheme.

Jakobsson has a BSc in Veterinary Science and holds a graduate diploma in Law. After starting her career as a senior policy adviser at the Parliamentary Resources Unit, she has held a number of public affairs and policy positions in organisations including Bell Pottinger, the Conservative Environment Network and Opower.

Before joining EEF she worked as a freelance consultant, providing advice on political and policy challenges, particularly around waste, renewable energy and environment.

Terry Scuoler, CEO of EEF, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Claire on board at such a critical time for industry. Policy plays an enormous role in creating the right conditions for competition, innovation and growth.

“It is vital that Government and industry work together to help shape a policy framework that supports business and the UK’s ambitions for a more productive, better-balanced economy. Claire’s role in ensuring manufacturers’ voices are heard and understood will be key.”
