LPG fuels high performance vehicles

At next week's IMHX event (16-19 November), Calor will be demonstrating how LPG-fuelled forklift trucks can achieve high performance and still be environmentally friendly. Two stars from the British Touring Car Championships – Tom Chilton and Tom Onslow Cole – will be on the Calor stand to explain how LPG gave them an edge over the competition.

Andy Kellet, Calor's forklift truck national account manager, commented: "LPG performance is not just about raw speed down the straights; forklift truck operators and businesses can also benefit in the workplace. "LPG offers many benefits and can dramatically reduce a fleet's impact on the environment by both lowering harmful emissions and keeping noise levels to a minimum; and, at the same time, provide first-class operational performance on a range of terrains, indoors and out." In independent tests carried out at Millbrook proving ground in August this year, Calor LPG was found to have the lowest carbon dioxide emissions compared to diesel and electric, and produced 98% fewer particulates compared to diesel. It is both lead- and soot-free, and the tests found that when forklift trucks were fitted with a three-way catalyst, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons were reduced to virtually zero. During the tests, white pads were placed over a 2.5 tonne LPG engine forklift truck exhaust pipe with the truck in operation before the same test was replicated using a 2.5 tonne diesel engine forklift truck for the same length of time. The results showed hardly any deposits for the LPG truck compared to the black exhaust mark on the diesel samples. See http://www.calor.co.uk/lpg-cars/forklifts/millbrook for more information.
