Project to improve process manufacturing wins award for innovation

Control software firm Curvaceous Software has won a global award for innovation at the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s annual Innovation in Engineering Awards, supported by the DTI.

The Gerrard’s Cross-based company won the manufacturing award for successful implementation of geometric process control for efficiency improvement in complex production processes. Curvaceous Software won its award for finding a way to deal with the issue of analysing the impact of changing several parameters simultaneously in a control system. Its geometric process control allows non-mathematicians to optimise multi-variable controls using a visual tool to establish the ‘best operating zone’, thus improving process yields. The judges commented that Curvaceous demonstrated an ability to use process information to create knowledge and deliver process improvements. They noted that it has also been commercially tested and has demonstrated a solid ability to deliver improved yields. A total of 17 awards, each sponsored by a major company, were presented and at a ceremony at the IET’s London HQ in Savoy Place.
