Over 350 female workers at Johnson Controls Automotive Experience will take part in a Semta career development programme designed to combat male bias within manufacturing.

The Career Investment and Progression programme will run at Johnson Controls Automotive Experiences' eight UK sites, Semta said. The scheme offers training on setting and managing career goals, communication skills and managing a positive personal reputation. Each female employee nets £400 in training support after completing the course. Sara Andrews, senior HR manager at JCPA said: "Diversity is a strategic priority of Johnsons Controls. We want to ensure that women in our organisation are given the opportunity to progress their career." She added: "We hope to now be able to develop the talent pipeline and in turn attract more females into a traditionally male dominated industry." Johnson Controls successfully piloted the programme in 2009 and has reported internal promotions among alumni, Semta said. Philip Whiteman, chief executive of Semta, commented: ""We are thrilled to see that the programme has already delivered tangible business benefits for employees at Johnson Controls Automotive Experience in the UK. I hope this will encourage companies to identify and develop high potential female employees and boost women's skills sets to meet their business objectives."
