Vicky Morton, 20, began at Whiteland Engineering Ltd. (WEL), last July as their first full Apprentice for 25 years and the first female in the ‘Works’.

Prior to applying Vicky had gained A levels at college which were key to learning new practical skills as an Apprentice. She has gained experience in the Turning, Milling and Inspection sections within the business, whilst working on components, for a variety of customers across numerous industries.

Recently the company increased its capacity through the investment of another new machining centre which is suitable to manufacture small/medium batch work, alongside their other capabilities including 4th& 5th Axis machining.

Vicky will complete her apprenticeship in another two years and said, "I'm excited for my future now and I hope my example helps others contemplating a career in Engineering to follow in my footsteps”.

She recently won the ‘1st Year Mechanical Apprentice Award’ from North Devon's Group Training and Development Ltd., an organisation established more than 40 years ago. Their vision is to promote and advance the provision of North Devon Engineering Apprenticeships by providing training and support to local employers and their trainees.

WEL’s Managing Director Neil Whiteland said, ‘’We are very proud of Vicky’s achievement and are a progressive company always promoting new ideas and concepts, which enable us to offer a better service to our customers. We are always looking for new engineering talent to join our skilled workforce. The next year will see us continue our expansion plans and enable us to offer even more capacity and variety of service’’
