Wakefield-based manufacturer Group Rhodes is celebrating the dedication of a number of its staff, after introducing a 10-year long service award.

Twenty-four employees were presented with a certificate and gift for achieving 10 years+ long service, with one employee, Gwyn Jones receiving a reward for achieving a staggering 50 years of service.

Group Rhodes CEO Mark Ridgway said: “We have rewarded 25 years’ service for some time and are really pleased to be introducing our 10-year reward to our staff. Our business relies on retaining talented our people, so this award is something we feel is very well deserved.

“I would particularly like to thank Gwyn for his significant contributions over the last five decades. It is an amazing achievement and we value both his ongoing knowledge and his role in passing on his skills to our new recruits.”

The awards were presented to staff during a company event held at Waterton Park Hotel in Wakefield. Jones began as an apprentice machinist working at the company’s Belle Vue base in Wakefield. He is now a team leader and helps to mentor new apprentices.

Jones said: “I joined the company as it was one of the best around for training apprentices. I still enjoy my job and enjoy the challenge of seeing a project through to its end. It’s also great to be able to help young apprentices to learn their trade and pass on my skills to the next generation.”
