Aerospace and defence grow again

Employment in the aerospace sector rose to 128,300 and there was an increase in apprentices to 4,100 in 2015, according to ADS Group. IT added that turnover was up by £1.9bn, to £31.1 billion and revealed that the aerospace industry exported goods to the value of £27bn, with Europe, North America and the Middle East remaining the three largest export markets.

Meanwhile, in 2015, the UK defence industry directly employed 142,000 people, and indirectly supported 111,000 jobs, said the ADS Group. It added that turnover was up by £2bn to £24bn in 2014 and productivity grew by 18% over the past five years. Exports were £8.5bn in 2014, with an average value of £7.7bn between 2010 and 2014.
