3D CAD software giant Autodesk has announced the beginning of its official Inventor of the Year voting process.

The company is asking anyone in the manufacturing and engineering sector to visit Autodesk community web site at http://mfgcommunity.autodesk.com and choose which of the 2008 Inventor of the Month recipients should be named Inventor of the Year. The Inventor of the Month program recognises the most innovative design and engineering advancements made by anyone using Autodesk Inventor – Autodesk’s solution for Digital Prototyping. Voting closes February 20 at 5 pm. Inventor of the Month winners for 2008 included: January: Triple Eight Australia designers use Autodesk Inventor software to experience and optimise the performance of the Team Vodafone V8 Supercar before it reaches the track. March: Aviation engines manufacturer ADEPT Airmotive uses Inventor to produce accurate 3D models of the 320T engine before anything was actually built. April: Agricultural equipment and machinery manufacturer Unverferth designs tillage components, specifies ranges of motion, and uses kinematics built into Inventor to simulate components in action. May: Professional audio recording and mixing equipment Sound Devices uses digital prototyping in Inventor to check for interferences between components and explore design variations. June: Surfboards manufacturer 42Surfboards uses Inventor to create a new generation of light, strong wooden surfboards. July: British Antarctic Survey uses Autodesk Inventor to design tools that allow the organisation to carry out research and provide insight into 21st century challenges.
