BEIS webinars to help electronics & machinery manufacturers prepare for Brexit

1 min read

Electronics and machinery companies are being urged to get going on key actions as the UK counts down to its new trading relationship with the EU after 31 December.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is holding a new series of webinars throughout November to help businesses understand the important actions they need to take to be ready by the end of the transition period.

The webinars are free to attend and, depending on the topic being covered, take between 45-90 minutes. They will cover issues including conformity assessment, mutual recognition of professional qualifications (MRPQ), personal data, and tariffs and rules of origin.

Here are the top three actions electronics and machinery companies need to take to be ready for 1 January 2021:

1. Use GOV.UK to identify how your business can be ready to sell certain goods in the UK and EU

You may not be able to sell your goods in the UK and the EU if you do not comply with the relevant goods regulations and standards from 1 January 2021.

2. Get ready to make customs declarations

Import and export declarations are complicated, requiring specialist skill, knowledge and IT. If you are not able to make declarations or provide the wrong information, your business could face delays, disruption or administrative costs.

3. Check if a visa or work permit is required to travel to the EU for work purposes and apply if necessary

You may face delays or refusal at border when travelling for business if you do not comply with the immigration requirements of the EU27 when travelling from 1 January 2021.
