Boiler manufacturer cuts costs with articulated forklifts

Boiler and water heater manufacturer BDR Thermea has introduced Flexi articulated forklift trucks into one of its finished goods warehouses, following a materials handling review of the operation.

The manufacturer of brands including Baxi, Potterton and Heatrae Sadia had been using a mix of counterbalance and reach trucks to load and unload goods at the French warehouse, with a double-deep storage set-up. After the review, BDR Thermea decided to switch to single deep aisles and Flexi VNA trucks, which enabled the fleet size to be reduced and saved costs. The trucks were supplied by UK manufacturer Flexi Narrow Aisle through its French distributor. A four-wheel, electric-powered articulated truck, the Flexi VNA AC was first introduced to the European market two years ago. Like all articulated forklift trucks in the range, the Euro model is versatile and can work inside and out, as well as within narrow aisles, without the need for special floor surfaces.
