Users in product modelling, design collaboration and manufacturing could all benefit from CAD/CAM vendor VX’s latest software product, VX Overdrive version 6, launched at last month’s Solid Modelling show in Birmingham. Key enhancements in v6 include: expanded web collaboration software with built-in web publishing tools; a new ‘quick’ milling suite which offers users better processing and 5-axis milling for complex manufacturing situations; a new mould design wizard to simplify electrode design; and various modelling enhancements for better control of solids, surfacing and assemblies. Karl Schubert, VX’s European md, claimed: “At a mid-range price, [this] software offers the kind of high-end functionality often associated with expensive enterprise-level products.” VX currently has around 500 users in the UK with the mould tooling and sheet metal industries being its niche. The firm boasts an impressive client list including the likes of Gillette UK and Unilever.
