CATCH Training Facility Gets Green Light

Plans have been approved for the construction of a new CATCH Training Facility for Industrial Decarbonisation and Renewable Energy in Northeast Lincolnshire.

The CATCH training facility at Stallingborough has the potential to train 1,000 apprentices a year by 2030. Both sites are set to officially open in early 2026. The facilities will help decarbonise the region, known to be heavily polluted.

Backed by Key Industry Investors for Clean Energy Growth 

The investment into the facilities was backed by Viking CCS, Drax Group, Harbour Energy and other investors. The renewable energy training centre will have classroom space and workshops, providing hands-on training for technicians and operators. The decarbonisation centre will include a lecture theatre and office spaces.

Hands-On Training and AR/VR Integration for Green Skills 

David Talbot, CATCH chief executive, said: "We are immensely grateful for the ongoing support of our investors in making this vision a reality. The Renewable Energy Training Centre will offer hands-on training for technicians and operators, with new purpose-built workshops, classroom space and common areas. While the Industrial Decarbonisation Centre, will feature a lecture theatre, inward investment suite, AR/VR capability as well as upgraded reception, office space and breakout areas for networking."

Driving Net Zero Ambitions in the Humber Region

Building Talent for the UK’s Biggest Decarbonisation Opportunity 

Richard Gwilliam, chair of the Humber Energy Board and UK BECCS (Bioenergy Carbon Capture and Storage) programme director at energy generator Drax Group, said: “The Humber is the UK’s biggest decarbonisation opportunity and CATCH Training Facility has a critical role to play in developing the pipeline of talent our region needs to deliver on our green growth ambitions. These facilities will equip current and future workers with in-demand skills that can lead to long-term careers in the Humber and globally.”
