Dell says its latest ultra-rugged laptop is designed for the military, oil and gas environments, manufacturing floors and field technicians.

Designated Latitude E6400 XFR, it has Dell’s Ballistic Armor protection system incorporating high-strength material used for applications such as cryogenics, aircraft components and military equipment. According to Lionel Bohar, head of notebooks at Dell EMEA, the new system meets a higher drop specification and offers a greater level of dust and moisture protection than any fully-rugged laptop in its class, and starts at £2,679. Key features include twice the impact strength of magnesium alloy, a 25% higher drop specification than any computer in its class (1.2m), high compression strength and structural stability at extreme temperatures. It also has Intel Core 2 Duo processors and vPro technology for enhanced manageability and advanced security features, as well as QuadCool Thermal Management to meet the MIL-STD 810F for temperature extremes. Says Bohar: “With this launch, which marks our first fully rugged laptop offering for the EMEA market, we incorporated innovations on behalf of our customers to create a one-of-a-kind system that offers advanced security, more durability, and exceptional ease-of-use for an overall user experience that’s simply unmatched in the industry today.”
