Discussions take place on flood relief for manufacturers

Talks are under way to create an emergency fund for manufacturers stricken by the devastating floods in Yorkshire, according to the Yorkshire Post.

It reported that factories were among the hardest hit businesses as water damage to plant and machinery halted operations.

Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is having discussions with central government, local councils and neighbouring local enterprise partnerships to put in place an emergency fund to support businesses that have been affected by the recent flooding, particularly those in Leeds, Calderdale, Selby, Harrogate and York which, it said, had been hardest hit.

It added: “We aim to have this fund up and running as soon as the necessary checks and balances have been completed.”

Information on how to apply for funding will be available here when the details have been finalised. In the meantime, businesses affected by flooding can contact the LEP at www.the-lep.com, by calling 0113 3481818, or through its local council network.

Meanwhile, communities secretary Greg Clark (pictured) has announced £50 million extra funding that will be available immediately to local authorities to help them support households and businesses affected by the weekend’s floods in Northern England.

This extends the total level of support now pledged by the government for the winter floods to over £100 million.
