Dome recommends PLM for engineering performance composites

Race car developer and manufacturer Dome Co says that PLM (product lifecycle management) systems are critical to the success of low volume, fast, highly innovative engineering.

The company, which has just revealed that it’s been using PLM solutions from IBM and Dassault Systèmes to streamline the design of its racing cars since 2001, singles out their Catia V5 Composites Design for parts design and manufacture as among the most important modules. “Catia V5 Composites Design and IBM Intellistation have allowed us to shorten lead time,” says Akihiro Oku, Dome’s technical director. “Composite materials make up around 80% of our racing car parts. [They] can be moulded into innovative shapes, but are expensive. “PLM has enabled Dome to streamline composite part design and manufacturing, freeing resources for innovation and developing creative solutions in response to customer demand. This is critical for continued success in our market.”
