Downing Street Vote Manufacturing petition creates online stir

1 min read

A Downing Street E-petition created on behalf of the Vote Manufacturing Campaign is the 5th most popular Business and Industry petition in the UK – just a few days after its launch.

The petition calls for the Prime Minister to put into place measures which address the five critical issues identified by the Future of UK Manufacturing Summit held on 4th March 2010 in London. The actions the petition calls the Prime Minister to address are long term leadership, culture change, engineering skills, action on incentives and taxes and energy costs. Campaign Director, Ed Tranter, said: "We are delighted with the initial response and high number of signatories. Turning the nation's back on manufacturing industry has put the entire economy in deep danger. If our manufacturers exported 10% more and we bought 10% less from manufacturers overseas, the annual balance of payments would improve by £45billion. That's more than the entire financial sector now contributes and enough to create a positive payments balance that could remove £200bn of debt in 10 years. No other business sector offers such great potential for restoring UK prosperity." To add your name to the list of signatories, click here.
