ERP system makes connections for interior design firm

Birmingham-based Interior design firm Connections in Design says it expects its new K3 Syspro ERP system, just starting implementation, to improve virtually every aspect of its business.

The company, which has been using disparate unsupported systems and databases, wanted a modern integrated replacement, and used business consultant Mike Mason for assistance with selecting and implementing a new system. Says Mason: “We are using the IT as an agent of change for the entire business. The new system will allow us access to key management information in real time, improving the accuracy and timeliness of everything from forecasting and cash flow predictions to procurement and inventory management.” He citers stock control as an example: the new inventory management system will provide visibility of its £1 million worth of stock, whether still on site or in storage at one of Connections in Design’s three warehouses. Also, the Syspro Mobile module will allow stock movements to be recorded in real time using hand-helds, so reducing time on stock-takes. Beyond those, whether sourced from stock, or purchased for a project, items for fit-outs will be stored in the new system and a new stock control interface will include images, aiding design and quotation. Says Mason: “Essentially, the detailed costings are done by our designers: they are given a budget to work to and source products accordingly. It’s important they can see what the furniture looks like so that it fits in with the overall design they’re working on – and if it’s a stock item, whether it’s available.”
