Falkirk sink manufacturer seals £10K in energy savings

A long-standing sink manufacturer has received a significant refund after an energy consultancy discovered inaccuracies relating to the property and roads drainage charges it was paying.

Based in Falkirk, Carron Phoenix appointed Kinect Energy, formerly Orchard Energy, to analyse their energy contracts, which led to a water saving of £1,400 a year after reducing their site’s rateable value, which determines how much property and roads drainage charges a business pays.

Kinect Energy also secured a refund of £7,000 after it applied the same changes historically.

Carron Phoenix can trace its roots back to 1759, when The Carron Company was founded as an iron foundry in Falkirk. The company was particularly keen to address issues and opportunities surrounding the Climate Change Levy, a tax on energy delivered to non-domestic users in the United Kingdom, which aims to incentivise and increase energy efficiency, while reducing carbon emissions.

Carron Phoenix’s company secretary Ian King says: “We have been very happy with the services provided by Kinect, in terms of electricity, gas, and water contracts. As a manufacturer, we are a large user of utilities, so this sector of the business represents a significant cost to us.

“With Kinect’s help, we have achieved cost savings, particularly in terms of the Climate Change Levy, while advice provided around how to handle our contracts during a period of considerable change for the company has also been extremely valuable.”

Kinect Energy Group managing director Amar Hussain (pictured) adds: “Knowing where to find inaccuracies in energy contracts is the key to securing significant rebates, which a large number of businesses aren’t aware of. Many stay with the same energy provider for years and don’t realise they could be paying more than they need to.

“Manufacturers such as Carron Phoenix are heavy utility users so being able to find them savings is a real plus, as well as the long-term cost benefits that come with them.”
