HARIBO has unveiled its class of 2020, a group of five promising, female students who will undertake a prestigious engineering scholarship with the UK’s leading sweets manufacturer.

Selected following a highly competitive, year-long application process, the Arkwright and HARIBO Engineering Scholarships have been awarded to Liv Urwin, of Newcastle; Charlotte Lampe, of Buckinghamshire; Imogen Young, of Cambridge; Jahnavi Badvi, of London; and Shivani Shrestha from Nottingham.

Showcasing its commitment to continued innovation and excellence, HARIBO will call upon its market-leading expertise to support each talented individual with funding, mentorship and valuable experience.

By choosing to support female candidates, HARIBO hopes to increase gender diversity within the engineering industry, encouraging more women to pursue this type of career within the food and drink sector.

Managing Director of HARIBO, Jon Hughes, comments: “As our brand continues to evolve, it is our talented team and the exceptionally high standards throughout our business, that helps us to remain leaders in our field.

“Only by harnessing this expertise and investing our time into developing young talents, can we build upon this legacy and continue to innovate.

“We’re extremely proud to be sponsoring this group of individuals who have already shown a huge amount of promise. They each have a very bright future ahead of them and we very much look forward to supporting them on that exciting journey.”

Recognising how varied engineering is, HARIBO will provide tailored support that will continuously evolve to complement each student’s formal learning and development programme. Not only will each individual benefit from HARIBO’s experience and expertise, but they will also have the opportunity to learn more about how HARIBO operates, across each of its departments, here in the UK.

Liv Urwin, student at Newcastle High School for Girls and recipient of a funded scholarship, comments:

“I’m so grateful for the support that I’m receiving from HARIBO. It’s given me a real boost of confidence to know that I’ll have the opportunity to learn from those who have masses of industry experience.

“I already feel so much closer to achieving my ambitions and I can’t wait to see what the next year brings!”

As the most prestigious scholarship scheme of its type in the UK, attracting more than 1,600 applications and awarding 393 places during 2018, the coveted Arkwright Engineering Scholarship gives young people the opportunity to take the first steps into their careers, becoming the leading talents of the future.

A family-owned business, HARIBO has been making much-loved sweets for 100 years. With more than 700 team members across two manufacturing facilities in West Yorkshire, including a state-of-the-art, purpose-built factory in Castleford, HARIBO is an advocate of best in class manufacturing and skills development.
