Government supports Farnborough International Airshow

David Cameron hailed the critical importance of the UK aerospace sector as he opened the Farnborough International Airshow 2012.

Cameron pledged the government's "unstinting, unrelenting, unflagging commitment to making Britain the best place in the world for aerospace businesses to invest, design, manufacture and export." Shaun Ormrod, chief executive of Farnborough International Ltd (FIL) said: "Such a strong Governmental attendance at the Farnborough International Airshow is a welcome boost for the UK aerospace industry in a difficult time for the UK economy." A record number of coalition government ministers attended, including business secretary Vince Cable and business minister Mark Prisk. The event was backed by Cameron's recent announcement of government and industry funding for 500 masters level degree places in aerospace engineering. The airshow hosted its biggest event Futures Day, where 10,000 young people from UK schools and universities will be given a glimpse into a possible future career in the UK aerospace industry.
