Monster phishing scam points to direction of web threats

A new scam targeting job seekers and recruiters on the Monster.com job site shows the scale of cyber crime manufacturers now need to guard against.

E-mails asking users to click through and update their profile appear to be linked to Monster.com, but can be traced back to a bot in Turkey. The scam is most likely to impact recruiters, with the perpetrators of the scam seeking access to their accounts and thus to thousands of CVs. Greg Day, security analyst for McAfee, says: “Scammers are trying more and more diverse and sophisticated techniques to obtain information that can be of financial reward. “The repercussions are potentially huge: if a cyber criminal is able to access a large number of CVs, the information could easily be used for malicious intent. CVs offer a goldmine of information.”
