Notts engineering firm celebrates collaboration with sustainability award win

A specialist engineering firm from Nottingham has capped a successful year by securing the 'Innovation for Sustainability' title at this year's Lord Stafford Awards which celebrate the best business and university collaborations in the East Midlands.

Hardstaff Group, which employs 230 people at its state-of-the-art Kingston-on-Soar headquarters, impressed the award judges with the launch and roll-out of its dual fuel injection system for HGVs. The company has collaborated with Loughborough University to bring the 'Oil-Ignition-Gas-Injection (OIGI)' system to market. Based on significant dual fuel research, it substitutes 70% of the diesel fuel used by a conventional engine with natural gas and this has been proven to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 20%. In addition to retrofitting the system, the company has already been appointed as a specialist dealer by Mercedes Benz, which is supplying new vehicles to be fitted with the OIGI.
