Oracle and IFS to replace US Air Force logistics systems

Swedish ERP developer IFS is to provide the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) management portion of an integrated logistics system to the US Air Force under contract to Oracle.

The system will support 250,000 users of the Expeditionary Combat Support System (ECSS) program – a COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) software system established to improve weapons systems availability by streamlining USAFlogistics process. It will replace and perform the functions of more than 500 logistics systems currently in use by the USAF. The overall logistics system will comprise of IFS’ MRO solution, Oracle E-Business Suite ERP, and an APS (advanced planning and scheduling) solution from Click Commerce. It will allow commanders at all levels in the logistics chain to automate the process of gathering logistics data, interpreting that data, and making decisions in near real-time to support global military operations. Total license value for IFS, including maintenance fees, is expected to amount to more than US$13m over six years, out of which $1.2 million, including services. It’s another indication of IFS’ strength in the aerospace sector, on both the defence and commercial side, and particularly in MRO systems.
