PepsiCo UK & Ireland's Skelmersdale site engineering manager Ian Rigby was named national Food and Drink Engineer of the Year at the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards ceremony in London.

The Food and Drink Engineer Award sponsored by Nestlé UK & Ireland recognises individuals that work in highly skilled electronic, mechanical and chemical engineering roles in the industry. PepsiCo credited Rigby's diligence and hard work as having played an important role in driving increased production at its Skelmersdale site. The facility now holds first class status for European maintenance methodology and Ian's team helped secure the 'Best Environmental Practice' award for the site at the Lancashire Business Environment Awards in 2011. FDF's director of economic and commercial services Steve Barnes said: "The food and drink industry needs enthusiastic engineers like Ian to realise our aspirations for growth. Ian's commitment goes beyond his day job and his enthusiasm for inspiring people to join the sector is clear. His role as a champion of the sector's new MEng food engineering degree at Sheffield Hallam University is highly valued." The 2014 FDF Awards will launch on 13 January, 2014.
