Seadrill upgrades and extends IFS Applications with new functionality

Global oil and gas drilling rig operator Seadrill says it is upgrading its ERP to the latest version of IFS Applications and expanding the system to improve flexibility and reduce customised code.

The contract includes consulting services and is valued at approximately SKr 12 million, and will bring the company, which has been an IFS customer since 2001, new industry-specific functionality. “With version 7.5, we get access to new industry-specific functionality for our global operations. Greater flexibility and new functionality make the new version more attractive [since] we can substantially reduce the number of customisations and take advantage of IFS’ best practice,” says Egil Hope, product manager for maintenance systems at Seadrill. “Our field of activity is continuously developing, and we depend on flexible solutions. IFS Applications 7.5 is built on a more compatible service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform, which will make it easier for us to make changes ourselves. All in all, we see significant payback associated with the upgrade and are looking forward to going live with the new solution during the first half of 2009,” he adds. IFS Applications is used on the drilling ships that operate around the world, and covers operations, support and logistics, with communications to the main database in Norway via satellite.
