Leading industrialist Allan Cook is to stand down from his role as chairman at Semta, it has been announced.

He will come away from the role at the end of March after being at the helm of the Semta Group for more than six years. His successor will be named in due course.

During his time at the group, Cook has overseen the transition from a Sector Skills Council to an employer-led organisation that has been recognised by the industry and the government.

“The skills landscape in our sector has changed beyond all recognition and during my time as chairman of Semta I have been very fortunate to have had the benefit of the support and collaboration of an outstanding Semta board and of course the Semta organisation under the strong leadership of Ann Watson,” he said.

“It has been an honour and a real pleasure to play a part in this important transition and I know that I leave in the knowledge that it is thriving and will continue its vital work – helping to provide the engineering skills this nation needs.”

Watson added: “Allan will leave a strong Semta Group and legacy behind on which his successor to the role can further build.”
