Setting the safety standard

Demonstrating its continuing focus on health and safety in the workplace, A-Plant has launched a new campaign to increase safety levels in the wide range of industries served by the company.

The new ‘Setting the Safety Standard’ campaign answers a market need identified by customers for more information and solutions to meet current and future safety legislation. Through the campaign, A-Plant will be working with customers to reduce injuries on-site by ensuring their employees operate in the safest possible working environment. The new campaign reflects the growing importance of health and safety and reinforces A-Plant’s commitment in this area. It has published an enhanced version of its popular ‘Site Safety Pack’ as part of the campaign. The pack comprises folders, posters, stickers, hand-arm vibration leaflets and an extensive 60-page health and safety handbook. The health and safety handbook gives a wealth of information on a range of subjects – from hand-arm vibration safety and working in confined spaces to manual handling and the safe use of access scaffolds and ladders and is designed to help site workers to understand the ever evolving health and safety legislation and guidelines. As demonstrated by the contents of the pack, the Setting the Safety Standard campaign will offer an ongoing programme of health and safety initiatives, inspired by new legislation and guidance from organisations such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). For example, it features an enhanced document covering the dangers of working with dust, focusing on the substantially reduced Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) for Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) exposure introduced by HSE. Designed to help protect workers exposed to airborne dust containing RCS on a regular basis, the new WELs set by the HSE are designed to reduce the possibility of these workers contracting the irreversible lung disease, Silicosis. The pack describes the industry-leading Dustcontrol range of dust extraction and suppression equipment now available from A-Plant to help contractors to meet the reduced WELs. The pack also incorporates information supporting the HSE’s Better Backs Campaign, highlighting products available for hire from A-Plant to assist with lifting and manual handling. All of these products are included in the comprehensive fleet of safety products from A-Plant, part of Ashtead Group.
