Skills shortages under the spotlight at Siemens Conference

Frank Bowley- the man charged with delivering the government's skills strategy- will debate how UK manufacturing can pull in more talented youngsters at the Siemens Answers For Industry Conference in Manchester next month.

Bowley will be joined by leading industrialists from GKN, Siemens, the Technology Strategy Board and sector skills council Semta in a keynote discussion on skills shortages. The heavyweight line-up including Siemens MD Juergen Maier and GKN director Jon Dennison will discuss a gameplan to help double the number of manufacturing apprentices by 2016. Bowley is deputy director for skills strategy at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and responsible for developing policy to support business investment in skills. The skills chief will hear from manufacturing leaders including Susan Evans, business development director, Semta, Will Barton of the Technology Strategy Board, Martin Hottass, UK skills partner, Siemens Louise James, director – group talent management and resourcing, GKN. The skills debate forms part of the two day Siemens Conference, which will debate how UK manufacturing can master core challenges in energy, productivity and skills. The event takes place on 4-5 July at the Manchester Central Convention Complex and features a stellar conference speaker line-up alongside an exhibition of latest industrial technology.
