This investment comes after the company received £840,000 in funding from Lombard, a UK-based asset finance provider. Specialist Glass Products is the first company in the UK to acquire a jumbo Systron Vertical Glass Processing machine, allowing for larger scale production.

Jumbo Systron Machine Installation at Huddersfield Factory

The machine will be used in the company’s processing factory in Huddersfield. It will allow the firm to handle more jumbo glass orders up to 6000mm x 3210mm. The Systron can polish, grind, cut and shape glass to any form. It can also manage the production of 120 fully finished panels daily.

Machine Features Supporting High-Quality Glass Manufacturing

Standard features on the machine include consistent polishing quality with precise control over polishing pressure, guaranteed arris parallelism due to patented water-cushion guidance, vibration-free processing to prevent chipping, and protected suction cups to prevent damage during the manufacturing process.

Continued Production of Flat and Curved Glass

SPG will continue to process flat glass and curved glass to bespoke measurements. Andrew Taylor, managing director at Specialist Glass Products, said: “The machine will help us streamline processes with automated services, enabling us to produce high-quality units more efficiently.

“It will allow us to achieve excellent edge finishes more quickly and consistently, which ultimately benefits our customers by offering competitive lead times and maintaining the high standards of quality they expect.”

Ongoing Growth Through Strategic Equipment Investments

“This new processing machine is part of our broader strategic investment plan and highlights our commitment to pushing the boundaries of glass processing. Following on from our significant £1.75 million investment in 2023/24, which saw the acquisition of a jumbo cutting machine, two polishing machines (both vertical and horizontal), and a CNC processor, this new addition further strengthens our capabilities,” he said.

“It will not only streamline our capacity but also positions us to lead in delivering cutting-edge solutions to meet evolving market demands. It’s an exciting step forward in our mission to innovate, diversify, and grow sustainably.”
