The installation supports Werfen's decarbonisation strategy while helping the NHS achieve its ambitious net zero targets through supply chain sustainability improvements.
As a primary NHS supplier, Werfen recognised the need to reduce Scope 3 emissions across its operations. The charging infrastructure enables fleet electrification, cuts workforce travel emissions, and establishes the headquarters as a fully-equipped venue for product demonstrations and training.
Comprehensive Site Survey and Network Design by Drax
As part of the partnership, Drax conducted a comprehensive site survey, managed distribution network operator (DNO) discussions for capacity upgrades, and designed a cost-effective network of fast chargers – each capable of charging two vehicles simultaneously.
“With Drax, it was a different conversation immediately – less of a sales pitch and more of a consultation,” said Kiran Naidu, UK Technical Services Manager at Werfen.
Efficient Installation and Minimal Disruption
The Drax installation team completed the project in a single phase with minimal operational disruption.
“During installation, the Drax team was very considerate and slick – they just got on with things without fuss,” noted Naomi Thompson, EHS & Facilities Manager at Werfen.
Tracking Savings and Future Expansion Plans for Werfen EV Charging Infrastructure
Werfen now tracks cost and CO₂ savings through Drax's My Electric Vehicles portal, with plans to expand charging facilities to every parking space and add a rapid-charging hub for visitors.
