Symington's takes a bite out of inefficiencies with Infor

Food manufacturer Symington's is reporting full ROI on its investment in Infor Supply Chain Execution (SCE) software, ahead of schedule, as a result of a 30% increase in throughput, with no additional headcount.

Howard Dearling, head of IT at Symington's, says that the application has helped to accommodate substantial additional volumes generated by rapid business growth. It has also helped the company to support faster, more efficient business processes and to boost customer service, he says. "With the acquisition of new brands, such as Ragu and Chicken Tonight, we faced an increase in throughput of around 30%," explains Dearling. "These brands arrive to us as pre-packaged goods from third party manufacturers, so efficiency in getting them scanned in, ready for distribution is vital," he continues. "This efficiency and optimisation is critical as we continue to grow at a substantial rate." Dearling says that the Infor SCE software has been key to meeting that challenge – helping to ensuring good customer service, supported by best in class business processes. He explains that Infor SCE replaced several disparate systems – including systems for goods inwards, raw materials and finished goods warehouse operations – that were inhibiting stock visibility across Symington's operations. The Infor application has delivered savings, he says, through increased warehouse efficiency, reduced transport costs, annual stock take improvements, lower inventory and a smaller IT footprint. The speed of the ROI was boosted by Symington's choosing to implement the Infor SCE application out-of-the-box, with no customisation.
