“The thin client strategy will significantly improve our IT support services by reducing the drain on resources from supporting an ageing PC network … it will make it easier to manage software upgrades and enable greater information sharing across the company.” So says Jim Smith, IT services manager for container manufacturer, Rockware Glass. In a contract worth £375k, Rockware Glass has just completed the roll out of a thin client strategy across its business with help from IT networking specialist, Barron McCann. The Windows 2000 client network includes 350 users across four sites in the UK: Doncaster, Worksop, Knottingley and Irvine in Scotland. Based on Citrix thin client technology, the network will improve IT management by replacing Rockware’s disparate PC networks with a single, centrally managed, application-driven infrastructure. It will also enable easier remote access to central corporate systems and provide improved disaster recovery facilities.
