Third party warranty offer to save manufacturers money

Large network equipment manufacturers that only offer 90-day warranties or costly extension options are behaving anti-competitively, according to repair specialist Comtek Group.

CEO Askar Sheibanim believes that resellers' hands are tied. "Manufacturers bully resellers into encouraging customers to unnecessarily replace faulty equipment with expensive, next generation products, rather than making a repair option easily available," he says. He insists that system integrators should be able to make their own decisions, rather than being straight-jacketed into offering limited or expensive warranties. Either way, Comtek has now introduced its own extended warranty for many types of hardware repairs. Indeed, Sheibani's companies now offer a three-year warranty on all Cisco repairs. Indeed, he claims that Comtek offers the type of affordable extended warranty periods that the manufacturers themselves are unwilling to provide.
