Toyota redesigns diesel engines to boost fuel efficiency

Toyota Material Handling has redesigned the diesel engines for its Tonero counterbalanced forklift truck range, giving 8% better fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.

The engine in question – on the 1.5t to 3.5t range – is Toyota's IDZIII industrial diesel engine, designed for forklift trucks. The 36kW engine has been optimised for fuel efficiency with the integration of a new fuel injection pump, regulating fuel in the combustion process. This engine also complies with the latest 97/68/EC emissions regulations (stage IIIa). Dave Rylance, Toyota's counterbalance product manager, said reducing costs for customers and improving operational efficiency were the key reasons for the redesign. The range is also built with sustainability in mind – the trucks are up to 99% recyclable at end-of-life in Toyota's ISO 14001-certified plant in Ancenis, France.
