Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are in manufacturing

Microsoft has released Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 to manufacturing, in the final phase of its run-up to launching the latest versions of its desktop and server operating systems.

Industry partners are also finalising new products in time for the worldwide launch, according to the company. Windows 7 will be generally available around the world as of October 22, while Windows Server 2008 R2 is due out "on or before that date," according to the company. Microsoft makes the point that, as always, current customers of the Windows Volume Licensing programme, Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) subscribers and TechNet subscribers will be among the first to get customer access to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 very soon.
