WM hosts factory tour at City Technology

More than half a dozen delegates attended a Works Management (WM) factory tour at City Technology this week.

The half-day event, which took place on 26 January, gave attendees an insight into the Portsmouth-based plant that was crowned overall Factory of the Year at the Best Factory Awards in 2014.

Delegates were given an insightful presentation on the firm by site leader Rob Love, and then had the opportunity to get an up close and behind-the-scenes tour of the gas sensor manufacturer to experience first-hand what makes a best-in-class factory tick.

Works Management deputy editor Chris Beck, said: “It was great to see such an engaged crowd at the factory tour, with delegates coming from far and wide to see the secrets of City Technology’s success. We hope to see them again at the other factory tours we are running throughout the year.”

A number of WM factory tours are still available for 2017. The next three tours are:

GKN Driveline, Birmingham (8 March – 09:30 to 13:00)
GKN, Erdington manufactures high performance side shafts and prop shafts that transmit power from the engine to the wheels of vehicles such as the new Range Rover Evoque. On the tour you will see how the site has deployed visual management to gear lineside teams towards target KPIs.

BRITA Water Filter Systems (14 March – 09:30 to 13:00)
Visit this award winning plant which places a high level of importance on OEE scores and changeover times. All operations employees are focused sharply on improvement, and regularly conduct audits to ensure continuous improvement in activities such as 5S and TPM. Best practice groups share knowledge with the German and Swiss plants on issues such as health and safety, and quality.

Coca-Cola European Partners (20 June – agenda/time TBA)
Exclusive tour date announced to Coca-Cola, Sidcup; a plant which has enjoyed a £50m makeover to develop a new canning line and warehouse. The Coca-Cola tour will include workshop-led sessions on effective people management and asset care management system/ the use of iPads in a smart factory environment. Demand is expected to be high.

Individual ticket price is £350 per place excluding VAT. Bookings of three of more people is £315 per place excluding VAT.
