Dell has gone live with the second phase of its global roll-out of Glovia’s enterprise system (ERP) – in the USA. The system manages demand-driven manufacturing for the firm, and is already live in Ireland, China, Brazil, and Malaysia. It covers just-in-time inventory and supply chains management for true make-to-order outsourced manufacturing. The Glovia implementation runs on Dell NT servers, and Dell has certified its configuration for more than 5,000 on-line users, making it one of the largest successful ERP implementations so far. With the system, Dell can view production and any other data on demand for business decision support. Says LaVerne Council, vice president IT for world-wide operations, “Fundamentally, it’s about customer service, which is Dell’s No. 1 priority.” Glovia CEO Matt O’Malley observes, “While Dell’s competitors are struggling to implement old make-to-stock style ERP systems, Dell once again sets the pace with a true real-time, make-to-order manufacturing solution which is both robust and highly scalable.
