Supply chain planning and event management software developer SynQuest, which late last year merged with supply chain optimisation firm Viewlocity, has changed its name to Viewlocity as of today. Jeff Simpson, Viewlocity’s CEO, views the name change as “a new beginning”. It needs it: prior to the merger, Synquest, although with excellent implementations on the inbound supply chain logistics and management side for the likes of Ford, was struggling. Like many others, the firm had cut its operating costs in the usual ways, but there just weren’t enough contracts to sustain it. Revenues fell sharply, growth predictions proved totally impossible, and last autumn it had to file for transfer down to the Nasdaq SmallCap market as its share value fell. Then came the overtures. Synquest and Viewlocity have now merged operations, with Tilion also merging into the combined company, providing cash of $13 million. SynQuest issued some $15 million of new shares for cash from shareholders and has hopefully covered its $7 million of debt. The combined company will now sell all existing products, focusing initially on collective top sectors: automotive, consumer durables, industrial, high tech, printed packaging and consumer packaged goods. Top of the list will be its financially-focused supply chain planning and adaptive execution suites for users with complex, extended supply chains. It’s all about profit-centric dynamically responsive planning and scheduling, while simultaneously resolving unscheduled events. “Viewlocity is already recognised as a leading provider of powerful supply chain solutions that enable businesses to reduce manufacturing and logistics costs, increase service levels, and realise more efficient capacity utilisation across the supply chain,” says Simpson. “We believe there is a growing demand for these emerging technologies in today’s market.” SynQuest customers include Ford Motor Company, Nissan North America, HON Industries, Simmons Company, Penske Logistics and Honda Express. Viewlocity’s customers include Dell, DHL and DSC Logistics.
