Mining and construction industry tools and equipment manufacturer Sandvik Mining and Construction has gone live with phase one of its Infor’s ERP System21 (formerly Geac and JBA), at its Norway operation – the first of 40 implementations.

The company says its new system will help improve business performance at every level – operational, process and corporate. It also expects the additional Infor Service Management system to enable growth by allowing service managers and engineers to streamline operations through, for example, tracking parts and service data. Anders Klang, global ERP manager for Sandvik Mining and Construction, says the company needed wholesale improvement: from managing production to replacement parts and after-sales service. It also needed to integrate distribution, manufacturing, finance and service functions. “It has been a challenging project because our service process is extremely complex,” says Klang. “We are able to handle all major business requirements, distribution, service, manufacturing and finance with Infor ERP System21. Infor Service Management enables us to manage the areas of our aftermarket [with] one common process. This includes field service, workshop, components, rebuilds, warranty, service exchange, preventive maintenance and contract activities.” Incidentally, the company is also using Infor’s Performance Analyser business intelligence tool to monitor after-sales delivery performances, which it says has also improved follow-up services. “Since going live in Norway, we are realising key benefits,” says Klang. “Bottlenecks in the service business have been eradicated and we can now plan more accurately around capacity and inventory. The success is now being used as a template for the other global country operations.”
