Product development software giant PTC has signed what it describes as a long term academic sponsorship agreement with Warwick Manufacturing Group, raising its status to a PTC Academy.

As a PTC Academy, Warwick university will receive a grant of PTC software, including Pro/Engineer and the Windchill PLM (product lifecyle management) system, for use in its teaching activities. In return, WMG will work with PTC to provide “leadership in the fields of product development and engage with other key players in industry who are also associated with WMG and its partners,” according to Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, professor of manufacturing and director of WMG. The agreement also includes PTC’s sponsorship of PhD research into visualisation, a key element of the modern product development systems when it comes to selling ideas and solutions. “PTC technology is at the forefront of design and collaboration,” says Bhattacharyya. “With this PTC Academy agreement, we are bringing an elevated level of learning to industry sponsored academia.” WMG, part of the University of Warwick, was established in 1980 and is dedicated to developing innovative research projects and sharing its knowledge through collaboration, knowledge transfer, PhD supervision, post graduate study and bespoke executive education.
