Rockwool UK extends contract with Downton

Multinational insulation products manufacturer Rockwool has extended its UK distribution contract with transport operator CM Downton.

The two companies have been working together since April 2016 and the extension reflects the successful solution that Downton implemented to meet Rockwool UK’s business demands.

Downton delivers palletised full loads of insulation products each week from Rockwool’s production plant near Bridgend, South Wales, to customers throughout the UK.

Alongside the full load contract, Downton has also been awarded Rockwool UK’s groupage warehousing and distribution contract, which covers deliveries of less-than-full loads and will entail the processing of customer orders by consolidating picking and cross-docking consignments into efficient loads for onward delivery.

To support the groupage operation, Downton has established links with Rockwool’s SAP system and its own warehouse management system to enable seamless sharing of information.

Both contracts will be co-ordinated out of CM Downton’s Chepstow facility.

David Hutchings, head of business development at CM Downton, said: “Over the past 18 months we’ve delivered a highly successful solution for ROCKWOOL and this extension and addition of a groupage agreement reflects their confidence in our ability to deliver a strong service in both areas. Overall it is another great example of how we work with customers to provide a local solution to meet their national distribution requirement.”
