AstraZeneca keeps cool with exports to Australia

Pharmaceutical manufacturer AstraZeneca has extended its contract with Yusen Logistics to include the transport of prescription drugs to Australia under temperature-controlled conditions.

The UK pharma giant was looking to improve its logistics model, and Yusen offered a robust and cost-effective airfreight solution which sees product collected from AstraZeneca's Macclesfield site, with thermal protection applied to each pallet. Temperatures are strictly monitored throughout the journey and cargo air movements timed to arrive in Sydney at the coolest time of day. AstraZeneca has been working with Yusen since 2007, when the logistics firm took over management of AZ's European road freight. Yusen uses a 'control tower'system, giving it a view of global movements by road, sea and air. All operational communications are routed through the control tower, giving AZ a single point of contact on material flow. Julian Wann, AZ's global category lead for freight and logistics, said: "Yusen Logistics has been proactive in developing solutions that meet all our needs. The decision to give Yusen Logistics this business allows us to assess the relationship in different areas and identify further potential opportunities."
