Atlas Copco has backed the hunt for the UK's brightest young factory stars by sponsoring the Rising Star category at Works Management's Manufacturing Champions Awards.

Inspiring young people into engineering was a topic "very close to our heart" said Atlas Copco- the leading supplier of compressed air equipment and services.

The Rising Star category is on the lookout for the apprentice/graduate or manager under the age of 25 who has made the most impressive start to his or her manufacturing career.

Dirk Villé, general manager, Atlas Copco Compressors UK & Ireland, said: "Atlas Copco is once again sponsoring the Rising Stars category and the need to encourage young people to pursue careers in engineering is a subject that is very close to our heart."

"They are, after all, the future of the industry and we certainly need their energy, ideas and talent to take us forward."

The Manufacturing Champions Awards were launched in 2014 to promote the people whose pride and professionalism help UK sites compete on the global stage. Ten categories are open for entry until 24 September with the winners announced at a glittering grand final on 3 December in Manchester.

Promoting top manufacturing talent on the national stage was critical with the arrival of a new government this May added Villé,

"To secure deserved support, we now need to demonstrate the talent and capabilities of British industry to the widest possible audience and these awards are an important part of that process."

"I strongly urge manufacturers of all sizes to consider the contribution made by the younger members of their workforce and put them forward for this award."
