Barfoots of Botley sweet on benefit of outsourced EDI

Award-winning sweet corn processor Barfoots of Botley says its switch to a fully managed EDI service, from Wesupply, has improved the speed, ease and cost effectiveness of trading electronically with its major clients.

Alex Spragg, IT manager at Barfoots, explains that the organisation used to rely on its own PC-based EDI systems, but that as it grew and received additional customer EDI mandates, they proved unstable and time consuming. They also lacked the scalability and modern EDI capabilities increasingly required to trade effectively, particularly with major supermarkets. "The volume of transactions and the fast pace of supplying fresh produce to major supermarkets makes effective EDI a cornerstone of our business' IT infrastructure," states Spragg. "Outsourcing to Wesupply allows us to future-proof our requirements, minimise our internal costs and benefit from Wesupply's experience and expertise in connecting with our customers," he adds. Wesupply's fully managed service has now automated the exchange of business documents, ranging from orders to invoices and ASNs between Barfoots and clients such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Ocado, Asda, Costco and The Co-operative.
