Extreme Networks goes extremely green on the energy grid

Extreme Networks, the US Ethernet infrastructure solutions builder, says it is furthering its drive for efficient energy usage by joining The Green Grid.
Regional director for UK and Ireland Paul Phillips says that, as a member of this consortium, Extreme Networks will help promote the adoption of energy efficient standards, processes, measurements and technologies within manufacturers’ data centres.
“CIOs overseeing data centres are demanding cost-efficient network solutions where a significant portion of their operational costs can be reduced through energy savings,” says Phillips.
“Joining The Green Grid is another example of Extreme Networks’ ongoing commitment to improving power efficiency with systems, software tools and network designs that reduce energy consumption throughout the network,” he adds.
Earlier this year, Extreme Networks’ BlackDiamond 8800 switch was independently evaluated by the Tolly Group as one of the most efficient modular Ethernet switches in the industry.
Additionally, its Summit X450 edge switch was evaluated by David Newman of Network World’s Clear Choice team and proven to have the lowest power consumption during fully loaded operation among six competing solutions.
Phillips says that Extreme Networks will now work with The Green Grid to develop energy efficient technologies and best practices for customers, particularly in Ethernet switching for data centres.
