Marlow Foods, the company behind the Quorn brand and part of the Premier Foods group, has signed a six-year deal with logistics business Norbert Dentressangle for storage, distribution and repacking services.

Norbert Dentressangle will store 20,000 pallets for the manufacturer and will take responsibility for the receipt, handling and distribution of more than 2,000 pallets each week from its shared-user cold stores at Grimsby and Spalding. The company will also repack around 1,100 tonnes of bulk product per year. As well as distributing finished goods to retailers, Norbert Dentressangle transports bulk, intermediate and finished product between Marlow's three manufacturing facilities at Stokesely, north Yorkshire, Methwold in Norfolk and Billingham, Cleveland, as well as to several third party co-manufacturing locations. In support of the contract, Norbert Dentressangle has invested more than £3 million in systems and equipment, including 14 new tractor units and 24 reefer trailers. Prior to Norbert Dentressangle's appointment, storage and distribution was handled by two third party providers. By consolidating these activities, Norbert Dentressangle is promising better operational efficiency and economies of scale. Marlow Foods' supply chain director, Mike Godley said: "In addition to providing a reliable, flexible and cost-effective storage and primary distribution solution to meet the demands of our retail customers, Norbert Dentressangle has also successfully integrated elements of our upstream supply chain operation, along with the provision of added value services, to provide a completely integrated supply chain solution." He added that he is looking forward to further refining the logistics operation over the course of the contract.
