Brewer Carlsberg UK has signed a five-year deal which will see logistics firm Norbert Dentressangle taking sole responsibility for the flow of materials into and out of its Northampton brewery and distribution centre.

The contract for UK primary distribution begins in February 2012, when Norbert Dentressangle will take over management of cans, bottles and kegs and finished product, including inspection of empty kegs, as well as overall management of the brewer's national distribution centre. The logistics firm will also look after primary transportation of small pack products into retailers' distribution centres, kegged product into Carlsberg's own secondary distribution network and the movement of tanked beer for events such as music festivals. Carlsberg says it has a strong cultural fit with Norbert Dentressangle and was impressed by the logistics provider's commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. David Hawkins, country procurement manager for Carlsberg UK, said: "Their appointment follows a long and tough tendering process, in which they have shown themselves to be a dynamic partner with a collaborative approach to day-to-day business."
