Forklift training accreditation body RTITB has announced that its biennial forklift driver competition will be contested at next year's International Materials Handling Exhibition (IMHX), Birmingham.

The 2013 operator of the year competition opens on 10 December 2012, when the first stage of online testing begins and runs until 18 January. Entrants will need to ensure they have received up to date training in accordance with HSE's Approved Code of Practice (L117) and that they are listed on RTITB's national operator registration scheme. After online testing closes, the best 12 operators from each region will be invited to attend the heats at IMHX from 19-22 March. RTITB's Laura Nelson says the staging of the heats at IMHX will "put the competition on the map". Winners from the heats go on to a grand final in September 2013, which is held at RTITB headquarters in Telford, Shropshire. First prize is a new car. The competition is sponsored by Toyota Material Handling UK, TNT Express and Calor Gas. Pictured: Gary Maher, 2011 operator of the year, is put through his paces.
